Falmouth Beer Festival

Cheers - Falmouth beer festival huge success. Hundreds of people turned up at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth at the weekend as the annual beer festival got under way. Held at the same time as the Falmouth Oyster Festival just half a mile a way, there was plenty of spin-off as visitors to the festival made their way to the Pavilion to taste a host of special beers, ciders and ginger beer.

On Saturday evening the atmosphere was at its peak as many of those enjoying a pint or two managed to watch the Rugby world cup final on a screen specially provided.

As expected the festival ended up being almost dry. So many good beers on offer it and too good to leave, said supporters.
On Monday, Fran Brennan one of the organisers said more than 9,000 pints were downed and added; "Suffice it to say, it was a really, really good festival!"

"On top of that will eventually be the figures for the ciders, perries and ginger beer we got through. We had more than double the choice in those categories this year and I do know that the cider, perries and ginger beer was pretty much decimated by the end of the Festival.

"We all felt it was a real cracker this year and the feedback we had in general was overwhelmingly positive. Most notably, everyone I spoke to seemed genuinely blown away by the actual quality of the ale on offer. One delightfully enthusiastic punter summed it up in saying, To have a range of beers like this and for them all to be in such fantastic condition is stunning!'".

Truro-based Skinners Brewery capped an outstanding tenth anniversary year by sweeping the board in the Cornish section of the festival.

Skinners' Pennycomequick scooped the gold award as winner of the section, followed by Heligan Honey second and Green Hop and Betty Stogs joint third.

Pennycomequick also came second in the dark beers section, with Heligan Honey third in speciality beers.

There were five sections in all, with a record 170 beers featuring in a landmark event to celebrate CAMRA Kernow's 30th anniversary.

"We are thrilled to have done so well at such a prestigious festival," said Skinners sales manager Andy Hawken. His boss Steve Skinner had flown off to Paris for the rugby final.

"It's a triumph for everyone concerned and also reflects great credit on the barley that was sourced exclusively in Cornwall for all the beers," added Andy.
