Tremough Campus was originally the site of a convent, the old buildings of which can still be seen at the heart of the modern campus. The site was incorporated into the Combined Universities of Cornwall (CUC) where it is shared between University College Falmouth and Exeter University (Cornwall Campus) in 1999.
The Tremough site has been subject of enormous development over recent years, with the influx of government and EEC grants has been pivotal in plans to regenerate the Cornish economy, and prevent the outflow of young people from the county for education and employment. Indeed it has been so successful that the area is now considered a hotbed of creative talent, and a magnate for students both nationally and internationally.
The reasons why are not hard to fathom, and include the state of the Art facilities at Tremough and the other CUC campuses, their burgeoning reputations as some of the finest arts and design schools in the country, and the Cornish lifestyle that offers a quality of life impossible in most of the United Kingdom.
Among the main beneficiaries of the development of Tremough have been the local towns - Penryn and Falmouth. Penryn in particular having developed into a thriving student community, complete with a good selection of pubs, wine bars, shops, and a lively and active student population.
Being three miles from Maritime Student Flats in Falmouth, there would be an easy daily journey to Tremough Campus by train, bus, or by bicycle along the edge of Falmouth Harbour.
