Dartington College of the Arts

Dartington College of the Arts has recently combined with University College Falmouth, but still continues to offer courses at its campus in Totnes, Devon until it relocates to Falmouth in 2010.

Plans after that relocation are to form a new "University of the Arts" in Cornwall.

Here is some more information from Dartington's own web site:

"On 6 April 2008, Dartington College of Arts merged with University College Falmouth. This means a secure future for the special qualities of learning that Dartington College of Arts has offered generations of students, and a wealth of exciting new opportunities for students now and in the future.

The merger has secured the future of Dartington’s international reputation. Our dynamic courses in Music, Theatre, Choreography, Writing and Art will become available in Falmouth from 2010, to enlarge and strengthen the portfolio of courses offered by University College Falmouth.

This will also open up a whole new range of collaborative opportunities with Falmouth’s existing Art, Design and Media disciplines.

By combining the resources of Falmouth and Dartington and the expertise, contacts and research of all our staff, the future looks bigger, better and brighter.

In practical terms, it means that the new institution will have three campuses, our campus at Dartington, and two 85 miles away in Cornwall – Wood Lane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn – until Dartington relocates to Falmouth in 2010.

If you start a 3-year undergraduate degree at Dartington in September 2008 you will study here for two years, before moving to new accommodation in Falmouth in 2010 to complete your degree."

Newsflash

IT may not be one of the best known facts about Falmouth, but the port played an important role in the story of Charles Darwin.

With 2009 marking the 200th anniversary of the famed naturalist's birth, it seemed entirely appropriate for Falmouth Art Gallery to stage a series of shows based around Darwin.

The Darwin 200 exhibitions have been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and organised by the gallery working in partnership with Newquay Zoo, Penlee House Gallery and Museum, Penzance, and University College Falmouth.

The first of the four exhibitions, Voyages of Discovery, is on display now and celebrates Darwin's epic voyage and the discoveries he made on the Galapagos Islands.
